Questions by
ysabetwordsmith from this post! But I'll be doing all the ones I'm interested in in one go, because I have other plans for every other day of the celebration.
What brings you to Three Weeks for Dreamwidth? How many times have you participated in this fest?
I don't remember how I found out about this event; I think from being nosy on
newcomers. This is my first time participating!
How do you plan to celebrate Three Weeks for Dreamwidth this time? Popular examples include contests, giveaways, inviting folks to join the platform, posting every day, writing anchor posts, and making a series of related posts about a favorite topic.
I normally don't like talking about plans because I have a serious problem with Having Ideas and then never going through with them. I don't want to disappoint anyone. I can guarantee 3 tutorials that may become anchor posts, because I already wrote those. I can pretty much guarantee that I'll make a list of questions based off a certain video game that people can use for whatever, because that's easy to make. But everything else? You'll have to stick around and see what I do. (Fandom comics and illustrations may be involved.)
How did you find Dreamwidth? What attracted you to this platform? Why did you start blogging?
I made my account in 2022, although I'm not sure why. I definitely found out about the platform from Tumblr. Maybe there was some kind of scare going on, as usual. I started using this place October of last year because Cohost went kaput. I needed a place to make longer posts, and I already had a Dreamwidth account, so...
I also made an account on an ActivityPub SNS at the time, but I like Dreamwidth more. I suppose as a longtime Tumblr user Dreamwidth just makes more sense to me. Tumblr is like Super LiveJournal Deluxe even if as time passed people stopped treating it as such, and Dreamwidth is like LiveJournal 2, so yea. Same ancestry.
What are your favorite things about Dreamwidth? What do you dislike about it? What do you wish it had, or had more of?
I like the lack of character limit, multiple icons, levels of privacy, customization of your journal, and currents. I dislike how the Latest Things page doesn't limit itself to showing only one post per one person. Status.cafe does that. I think it should show only a users' latest entry if they've made multiple recently. I wish there were more people making layouts, and of course more users in general. (Quality users, of course.)
Do you think people should crosspost the same or similar things in more than one place on Dreamwidth? Why or why not? Are there conditions that influence whether or not it's a good idea?
If you have a post on Dreamwidth that's public, and you want more people to see it, you might as well crosspost it. If you include that you originally posted it on DW with a link, and there are even more posts on your DW that you don't crosspost, that might entice people to join. Which is why at the end of each week of Three Weeks I'm posting a summary on other sites of what I've put on here :3 I'll crosspost these posts daily once the event is over, but not all of them. Only the illustrations and comics, if I make any. I don't feel comfortable making very long text posts anywhere else (except my website, if they're suitable for it).
How often do you post in your blog? Do you like reading blogs that are high or low in traffic?
I'd post daily if I lacked restraint, but since there's not many people here I am aware that the people subbed to me will see ONLY me if I'm always posting, and that makes me feel shy. But clearly it doesn't make me feel shy enough, because I still post frequently. Let's just say I post multiple times a week. Please don't feel pressured to read every long post I make, subscribers!!
I prefer blogs that are chatty, but if the content is good I don't care how infrequently they post.
What are the top ten topics in your blog? You can use the Manage Tags function to sort by usage and see which ones you use most often, or just think about what you consider important subjects.
1. Real life, which is my misc tag for things that aren't fandom (one day i'll go through it and split it into topics)
2. Video games
3. Joseimuke
4. Angelique
5. Comics
There's a lot of overlap within the last 4!
No other tag has above 10 entries, so I don't want to include them. I wonder what my top 10 will be next year.
What types or topics of posts get the most enthusiastic responses from your readership? What do you think makes those so engaging?
I really hope I find this out soon. Maybe during this event? I haven't quite received enough interaction yet to know for sure.
Do you use your blog for personal, hobby, or professional purposes? Do you mix those or keep them separate, and why? Do you like to talk about yourself in your blog, or do you prefer to post about other people and events instead?
Personal, even if some posts seem more formal than others. There's privacy levels, so I post differently and more casually as the filter gets more granular.
I might make a professional blog one day using Bear Blog. I don't want my employers to know about this account, so I don't know how I'm going to handle reposting really good entries I've made here without them checking for plagiarism and finding this account... SIGH.
Do you follow any blogging guidelines? What do you make a point of doing, or not doing, in your blog?
I type with proper spelling and grammar for entries I intend to have a wider audience. Not everyone speaks English well enough to understand typing quirks and slang. I also find slangy typing to be somewhat hard to read when a post is very long. In access-locked posts I type more like how I text.
When I'm feeling really nice, I'll explain any references I've made in the post too.
Some of the questions I might answer on the last day :p That's the one day I don't really have solid plans for.

Woohoo!

Yeah, plenty of folks plan 3 anchor posts for this event.
