Two weeks ago my laptop died horribly and in agony, which threw off my entire routine and life. I do not like being locked to the small screen, especially for important decisions. But today ol' Lappy decided resurrection would be a good idea, so I have a PC again! A very temperamental one, so I need to focus on copying files to move them to a new laptop at some point. It's only been 2 weeks, but it feels like a month... and before my laptop fake-died I was really focused on making a website for a specific purpose I can't say publicly, so that's why I've barely been on Dreamwidth specifically. Does anyone know if there's a secret third cover by a Japanese group to complete the trifecta? And if they're all covering some overseas song that I haven't heard before but will stumble into a few months or years down the line (100000 such cases)?

can someone who is in vkotd tell me if next week's challenge should be "I Can't Believe It's Not VKei" or some other thing i dont have a name for yet, but it's sharing songs that you think are classics or hits or whatever you're withholding because you think you won't look cool with unique superior music taste for sharing it?

i think sharing things that aren't vk but could be if you're working with a very faulty definition is funny, but on the other hand i could see someone getting irked that they subbed to a vkei comm and theyre not getting vkei, even if temporarily. but the funny.....

if the funny wins then the classics challenge can happen later, but if funny loses then i'm not sure if i'll ever just run it later 😓 since it's a little off-topic

April 👍🏾

I forgot to say anything here, but I got my driver's license!! My life hasn't done a 180 or anything because I don't like driving, but it's all about the baby steps. I was scared to even pull out my parking spot alone, and now I can at least take multiple ways to work (5 minutes away btw) and back home without freaking out. I'm getting there.

I have officially been job hunting for 2 months with no luck and I have to start paying my student loan debt next month, so that's cool.

That stupid dress-up game I'd be swearing up and down I'd finish? I gave up on it. I couldn't take it anymore. BUT! I did finish it. In the sense that I gathered up what I did for it and published it online. So if you have a minute or two to waste, you can play the game that took me 5 months of picking up and putting down programs to make too. At least I can rest assured that if I ever wanted to make another one it won't take even half as long because I know what I'm doing now. :')

All the goals I publicly mentioned in last month's post, 1. drive myself to work, 2. not use any ad-funded or data-stealing socmeds, 3. not sleep next to my phone, and 4. get a good grade in 3W4DW, were met. Huzzah. #4 is subjective, but I definitely haven't failed so far, so I'm counting that goal as met.

clean out old emails

because I need to relax. I need more free time so I can ~~consume more media~~ enjoy more art. There's so many novels, comics, games, albums, movies I need to be enjoying -- and that's not even getting into the studies I need to be doing. I feel like I'm really busy for someone who does fuck all.

Why Did I Watch This??: Besides the "I need to watch more movies to become human" thing, Farewell My Concubine is one of my favorite movies and I'm still chasing that high to this day.
Strongest Aspect: Pretty colors 🙂‍↕️
Favorite Part: Any scene on stage because Linh can really sing!! And apparently in real life he's a pop singer named Isaac, so We Will Be Listening.
Least Favorite Part: When Linh and Dung are talking on the rooftop. So corny. Who talks like that? Especially when they hadn't even been talking for a full 24 hours yet.

Marching On...

This is a post about my month of March. I am writing it in mid-April because I forgor 💀

What I Did

Nothing interesting. Driving lessons, went to work like 3 times the whole month, made good progress on my fantl, worked on my dollmaker juuuuuuuust a little (there were more roadblocks As Usual). I wanted to finish A Game of Thrones but I couldn't. I'm barely ever scheduled for work, and in this state to get a license you're required to take driver's ed no matter how old you are, which costs $500-700. I think in March I paid half the down payment on a new car too, with my father paying the other half, so um. Haha. For my mental health I can't look at my bank account; I still need my hair done too. My dad who lives 12 hours away got the car for me and handled most of the boring stuff, and he said he'd drive it to me in April. So March was just a bunch of prep for actual cool things to happen in April and May. I did finish a lot of things though! This time I'm going to write about them in the details tag.

My Goals for April That I Can Publicize (Have I achieved any? That's spoilers 🤫)

Drive myself to a new job with a new car and new license :)

Not use any social media that's funded with ads or stealing data (just a temporary break)

Not sleep next to my phone

Get a good grade in 3W4DW, something that is both normal to want and possible to achieve

Just So You Aren't Caught Unawares...

Three Weeks for Dreamwidth is coming up! If you don't know what that is, it's basically 3 weeks of making Dreamwidth-only content to create more activity and love for the site. If possible, it's encouraged to link to Dreamwidth posts/communities/etc. on other sites to make people more interested in the place :] But you don't have to do that, or really anything if you don't want to, obviously. It runs from April 25th to May 15th. You can see what other people plan on doing @3weeks4dreamwidth.

As for me, among other things, I plan on encouraging more activity in my communities. So if you like visual kei or Japanese rock music or really edgy aesthetics or your demon hand that thirsts for blood, you should join vkotd if you haven't already. I'm going to be holding a new challenge soon :3 And by the end of it you may be... rewarded. Or not. Depends.

Also I made joseimuke on impulse the other day, which is completely unasked for and blank, but if you like shoujo and josei animanga or otome games or a little BL or some yuri or those phone games where the cast is 99% bishounen/seinen or etc. feel free to join early and see what I'm cooking. Everything you see there right now is very provisional.

Poor Summary: Me when I start an underground boxing ring and become a terrorist because I'm bored
Why Did I Watch This??: Because everyone else has 🙂‍↕️ It's part of my journey to become a real human.
Strongest Aspect: Probably not actually the strongest, but I thought the CGI looked really cool.
Favorite Part: Not sure I have one... I just liked the entire movie. The twist reveal?
Least Favorite Part: None, but I suspect that during some rewatches I'll skip the first part of the movie, all the way up to when our protagonist meets Tyler.
Blahblah: These are the most intricate rituals which allow one to touch the skin of other men ever constructed.

Brad Pitt at the end of the movie looks like white Michael B. Jordan. Someone please agree with me.

Anyways, I see now why you might want to avoid a guy who says this is his favorite movie 😭 I would gladly rewatch it though; shit was crazy. And I want to read the book because I'm so curious how some of the things in the movie would work in writing.

Haters Will Say "Dude, It's Already the End of March"

But I'm doing my February summary anyways! I've gone 2 weeks without posting, which is unusual for me and I don't like it. (>posts too often >feels bad >posts too little >also feels bad >???) I fell behind on my reading page and I didn't want to keep posting while not keeping up with everyone else. I didn't want anyone to think I was ignoring them because I secretly hate them or something. I also read all the replies in my inbox and didn't reply to them sooner because...? I don't even know. I do tend to not reply to things immediately because I don't want to seem weird by responding too fast, but after 24 hours I don't really have an excuse.

So I've decided I should post whenever I want to and not worry about other people thinking I hate them. (We're not 16 anymore, if you feel unloved just say something or go distract yourself.) I should reply to things as soon as I read them and have thoughts on the matter, and I added everyone's feeds to my RSS reader so I can't miss anything. If I have access to your locked posts then I added you to my bookmarks to remember to check in on those too. So there, so no more radio silence from me unless I'm actually going through it.

Sometimes Things Are Highly Rated Because They Are Good

Type: 🎥
Genre: Biopic, History, Drama
Poor Summary: You know who Malcolm X is. If you don't, then basicallyyy he's a USian Civil Rights leader who preached black pride, self-defense, economic independence, conversion to Islam, etc. (along with other more insane things due to the nature of The Nation of Islam.) He used to be against segregation because he didn't think black people could ever get along with their enemies, but after performing the Hajj and feeling the unity of Muslims of all colors he changed his mind on calling all white people devils and his anti-integration stance. Unfortunately, he was assassinated not even a full year later in front of an audience which included his wife and daughters.

Why Did I Watch This??: I need to watch more Black movies, and this one had high ratings + I like history and was interested in the subject matter. I probably should've watched it last month though ^_^; I probably should've tried to watch like 5 Black movies last month, but the idea never came to mind. But hey! I can do that any month I like. Black history is always relevant.
Strongest Aspect: I'm not a movie guy, so don't expect big words from me. #1 is the colors. #2 is Malcolm's own words.
Favorite Part: Nelson Mandela at the end delivering part of a speech by Mr. X, and the cut to footage of Malcolm X finishing it. Did you know the cut was because Mandela just got out of jail and he didn't want to get in trouble with South Africa's government by saying anything that could be seen as encouraging violence? He didn't want that soundbite to be out there. So Spike Lee "got" Malcolm to say "... by any means necessary" himself.
Least Favorite Part: I don't have one. Whole movie was good, and that shit was 3.5 hours long LMAO. If I'm being held at gunpoint to give an answer, I guess the pilgrimage part didn't particularly excite me, but I think that's a skill issue on my part and not reflective of that... "arc" ? ???

Poor Summary: In the first season, Luo Xiaobai (Little White) finds a black cat and brings it home, naming it Xiaohei (Little Black). Unbeknowst to her, the strange cat is actually a spirit/elf/demon/depends on the translation who is on an important mission!! If he successfully completes it, he can become an Executor (less violent than it sounds. I guess it's kind of like Spirit World Special Ops?) and work alongside with his absurdly overpowered master. Lots of shots displaying the beauty of nature and everyday life interspersed by breathtakingly fast action scenes follow. This season is about his final mission, in which he and the friends he's made along the way have to >_> enter a VR game >_> which is popular among both humans and spirits >_> and he has to like do missions in it or something IDK I don't remember his exact mission because I hate when cartoons or comics are video games. #LetGamesBeGames

Why Did I Watch This??: Loved the movies so much I decided I have to have the full scoop on this little cat, so I intend to check out all the other media from the same series too.
Strongest Aspect: Just like the movies and first season, the animation is great and the art style is too cute <3 I really really love the art of this series.
Favorite Part: Definitely the last episode or 3, because the entire concept of the season had me worried it was gonna be bad and it WAS kinda of me~h until we finally got some major asskicking involved, as well as the master-father finally showing his face(!! the show had been avoiding showing him like he's some kind of final boss, even if I know full well what he's like from the movie) and having a very very very sweet moment with his student-son who lowkey has separation anxiety at his big age.
Least Favorite Part: How often Shanxin had to infodump about how the world works 😭 Even the show itself acknowledged it was all boring at some point. At least they're aware?

Did Somebody Ask For 35 Song Reccs? (crickets)

In January my musical focus was popular songs in Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin (although other Chinese languages may have snuck in), and in February my musical focus was songs in those languages from genres I like specifically. I discovered so many songs that I didn't even know which to DM to my usual music buddy -- and sending all of them would only result in threats on my life. But then I remembered I have a blog. So now I get to put on not just her, but all of you. Welcome to my twisted playlist.

Whether I actually like it or not doesn't matter when I can't stop saying Hellokittybalahcurryhellokittyoishii. babyMINT makes some really interesting-sounding songs, so if you have time to waste you should listen to 2023 : BBMeme ODYSSEY or another one of their popular songs.

Many LLM users are indeed not interested in playing others' work; all they want is people to play theirs, with no compensation or gratitude.

I'm surprised this is my first time seeing it brought up since it seems so obvious now that I've read about it. Even beyond the environmental or economic damage, people who make AI art flood communities they don't even really care about with crap, and then they don't even want to hear anything about it but praise.

Challenge #15: How Did the Fandom Snowflake Challenge Go?
I liked having a reason to talk about the things I like prompted. I met some cool people, and even became mutuals with at least one, so that's great and the Snowflake Challenge wasn't a complete bust. All in all I think it went well for me! And I'm really glad this challenge has been held annually for so long.

This is a personal skill issue, but making such long posts so often made me feel annoying. (The length of the posts is a choice but I'm talkative when given the chance to be, so...) I might not participate next year, or I will only via commenting, but that doesn't mean I think it's bad.

One thing: I know it didn't do well in the polls, but I think having Grant a Wish as a challenge is a good idea and it should stay. People should not only ask for things, but give too. And I'm not just saying that out of greed, because I didn't have any of mine granted. SPEAKING OF, I didn't write about it but I did grant at least 3 wishes, so please include in the record that I completed Challenge #11 too ☝🏾
