Spotify Wrapped

Since I'm already screwed when it comes to school, I'm going to get back to blogging now! I know everyone missed me sooo bad. Fret no longer, Cici is back.

It's that time of year again! I've been eagerly awaiting this. To those in the audience smirking because they're above this or don't use Spotify: I still download music. There is plenty of music I listen to that Spotify has no clue about, so my Wrapped can never be truly accurate. The songs I have downloaded are mostly Japanese rock (from the Visual Kei scene, specifically), Showa-era Japanese pop, songs from anime soundtracks, and songs from game soundtracks. So keep that in mind as I continue, I guess.

Last year, my Wrapped was pathetic. It was so bad. I don't even want to get into specifics. Just know that besides the usual Buck-Tick as my top artist (this year makes 6 years in a row in their top fans, but I digress), the rest of my top artists were all the same artists I've been listening to since birth. My top songs were mostly songs I've known since elementary school. My top genres were just Spotify calling me a n[redacted] in 5 different ways. After seeing that shameful display, I swore to listen to less popular Urban Hits of the 00s in 2024.

Do you know how painful that was for me? It hurt so bad. But I did it. Not just to manipulate statistics and have something impressive to show when Wrapped time came around, but because I clearly needed to listen to more music. You may be smart enough to think: But Chris, you probably listened to a lot of new music in a place Spotify couldn't see, right? If you thought that you're smarter than me, because I didn't consider that at all until typing this just now XDDDDD I was just so in shock...

Anyways, my top artists this year are 1. Buck-Tick, 2. Michael Jackson, 3. Beyoncé, 4. Keyshia Cole, 5. Shazna. Heyyy, got it down to 3 R&B artists instead of 4! Yeaaaa babyyyyyyy let's aim for 2 in 2025 babyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy (I know getting rid of the MJ is entirely unrealistic). Now, there is a small problem: The stupid fucking site didn't say our top genres this year. Everything I did this year was to change how my top genres looked, and now I'll never know how I did. On some outside service I could at least see my top genres of the last 6 months, and going by that I did kind of well (R&B at the top still, but hip hop was down significantly), but what about the start of the year...? Ugh. Also, I listened for 136, 069 minutes, and remember that's excluding my outside MP3 player. This is because I pretty much listen to music during all my waking hours. It cancels outside noise AND provides dopamine! Two in one!!

I will be including my top 100 songs under the cut. Feel free to judge me and beat me and kill me for not listening Tally Hall and 100 gecs and whatnot
