Things I've Finished Since Breaking Bad, Pt. 2

This entire post is dedicated entirely to one thing, because I have a lot to say about it. (Part 1 aquí.)

Cut text a reference to this.

Naruto

Yes, I watched Naruto for the first time in my life this year, finishing it May 15th. I kind of decided that if I'm going to meet people, I should try to like things that people have actually heard of, so I planned on watching or reading Naruto, Bleach, Dragon Ball, and One Piece. Might add Jujutsu Kaisen to that list; currently undecided. That plan is currently in motion babyyyyyy

Story: In the usual Chris fashion, I can't quite remember what the whole story is clearly because I'm super concentrated on a character or a few characters. I will say that Naruto was mid (with some hype moments) and I was seriously going to drop it until I finally got past the tournament arc.

I don't know where to put this... I think it's a pacing issue? I hate how they will show 2 or even 3 fights at a time, ensuring the same fight drags over multiple episodes, and although I know it's not true it'll make one part of someone's fight look like it's taking foreeeeever when they're doing something that couldn't take more than like, 5 minutes. I hate how shounen drags things; that's what started my initial distaste for it. Sometimes some scenes or shots seemed unnecessarily drawn out too. I guess they have to make episodes last 20 minutes in any way they can. Good thing I was watching on something were I could fast forward or up the speed. In a way, Naruto is something I only could have watched now because I have this technology at my disposal. Having to watch it all in normal speed on TV wouldn't have worked out.

Art: A while ago I saw someone say they couldn't watch Naruto because they hated the art style. And I was like, what? Because Naruto has the most inoffensive How to Draw Anime art style ever. The bar is in hell, but I notice that no female character is showing boobs except Tsunade (a grown women). Pretty cool, pretty cool. The character design in this show is good, and I like how everyone is easy to draw while unique :3 The animation varied a lot, but the animation for 1. Orochimaru vs. the Third Hokage, and 2. Naruto vs. Sasuke at the waterfall was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 PEAKKKKKK. Overall I guess it was average, but when it was good it was great. There are episodes without action that have really good animation too. It has nice colors, and when I compare it to the bloom-filled mess a lot of shows are today, the way light and shadow are portrayed here is a breath of fresh air.

Sound: video game ass song
Well, all Japanese media (anime, manga, novels, games both tabletop and computer, live action, theater, everything) are holding hands in a ring and skipping and singing and borrowing from each other, so it's inevitable.

I think the sound is pretty good. It's no Yoko Kanno work, but some songs did stand out to me. ... I'm not going to say which ones (besides the one I linked) because trying to find soundtrack music is a pain, but the songs exist, okay?

But that was about instrumental, soundtrack music. The opening and ending themes, however... There's only 1 or 2 endings I give a shit about to be honest, but Naruto openings are overall great. My favorite is the fifth one! Check it out.

This opening has multiple versions, and if you know them then I would like to say my ideal version would have the happy Rock Lee and Guy + Kimimaro, but normal Orochimaru with no skin falling off. Yupp. Shout out to openings 1, 2, 4, and 9 as well.

When it comes to endings... this gay-ass ending... Man, what the hell. It's a song one would assume is meant to be a love song, but it shows Sasuke at the end. Naruto is NOT beating the allegations.

Oh yeah, I can talk about voice acting! I watched this show with Japanese, Latam Spanish, Euro Spanish, and English audio at various points. Love the Latam dub. Wish they knew how to balance audio. *clenches fist*

If I'm going to be honest, I really liked the English dub because Sasuke sounds like Felix. Really, Felix sounds like Sasuke, and the possibility that the director for the FE3H dub told Dodge/all potential Felix VAs to try a Sasuke impression cracks me up. Also, at some point I said about Orochimaru's voice "he sounds like a snake-themed villain from a children's show" and then started laughing because that is literally what he is 😭 Anyways, the voice acting in all the dubs I heard were good.

Characters: I came in wanting to like Sakura because I knew she had crazy haters, but um. <:( But I'm on Shippuden now; I know she gets a LOT better. I like Rock Lee, but Kishimoto doesn't respect him at all. The show wants you to think its main theme is "hard work can get you anywhere," but to this day I haven't seen him win a fight; meanwhile nepo babies Naruto and Sasuke are portrayed as if they're starting from the bottom when they're kind of not?? TT Make it make sense. But it's okay because hype moments and aura>>>>themes, as we all know. (<-That is a joke. To an extent.)

One reason I even started watching was Sasuke. If you know me, you'd probably guess that this was inevitable. The final straw was that tweet about him aura farming while proposing. For like a week after seeing it, every time I'd get sad I'd think of that post and start laughing. As soon as I'm able to find it I'll edit this post to share it with you too. (Edit: THIS post.) What is his problem? What happens to make you like that?? I had to watch Naruto and figure out what needs to happen in his life to make a man feel the need to farm that much aura. So... you can guess, he's my favorite character. Even if his brother has natural aura and Sasuke should feel ashamed.

Naruto is the kind of character I'm normally meh about (that personality is awesome on girls but idgaf when it's on a guy, don't know why), but his dedication to bringing his friend back home makes me like him. You go little guy.

All the other little guys I like too, except Choji because I think he should accept being fat and own it. He's also just a walking fat joke so far, so, mehhhhhhh. Lots of people want Kakashi carnally but I never saw him that way at all. I was surprised seeing how many people wanted him from the start, even. I like him and think he's a good squad leader though. Jiraiya is a pervert so I really should hate him, but he's loqui kind of cool so I fuck with him. I like Tsunade's design even though I think it's lame we can't see her middle-aged sometimes, so she's aight with me. I wish I could see Hinata more. Kabuto looks geeky as fuck and I think Orochimaru should get him cooler glasses or hide his ponytail holder or make him do his ponytail up higher or something. If I say my opinions on Orochimaru I'm in big trouble, but let's just say "he intrigues me," and keep it at that.

I considered just writing the name of every named character and summarizing how I feel about them, but nah. If you're curious just ask. One last thing though: KIMIMARO SWEEP>>>>>>>>>>>> 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴🦴

Enjoyment: I'm normally a shoujo guy, as you may know, and Naruto takes so long to get good I thought I was going to have to give up or die. But it picks up after the tournaments :3 It's true! I skipped most (but not all!) filler episodes to finish it so quickly. I think I can honestly say that I think Naruto is Good, even though its boring parts are booooooooooriiiiiiiing. The good parts? Absolute cinema.

So how do I feel after finally finishing it? .............................................. *dies of peak* Although, I would laugh a LOT at how dramatic and serious and auraful things got when the 2 people having all this drama are 12 year olds. Like, okay, to be fair: being 12 is serious and awful and I feel sorry for anyone who is 12 right now. But they're just too baby-faced... That timeskip was clearly so they could grow up and have their aura taken more seriously. I also probably wouldn't think it was so good if I couldn't skip all the filler and repetitive parts, like I said earlier.

I wish I had just liveblogged it. I had so many opinions. Now I don't know what to say. But! I did really like it, a lot more than I thought I would. When I finished it I was super excited to start Shippuden and see how things play out. Very cool, very cool.
