I really need to learn to just make posts as soon as the idea is in my head rather than hold on to them, so that I won't have to make posts like this and push other post ideas back. Procrastinating these long things that only get longer as I hold out sucks a little. I'm using a template for most of these because otherwise I won't write anything that makes sense or reads well, lol.You see, because I procrastinated writing review posts I now had to write 8 in one. Except... no I didn't. I realized late last night I can make and post them a few at a time. I've already finished 6/8, but some of them are really long, and some were even truncated for the sake of not having a miles long post. If I separate them I can talk more. So here goes!
( Legend of the Galactic Heroes )
( Gokicha!! Cockroach Girls )
( Grandia )

This is the first thing I put on my "list of pictures to share on DW" folder a month and a half ago. I could easily find a screenshot of this CG in better quality, but nahh. At the time I probably had something disproportionately wild to say about this picture in contrast to how tame/simple/chaste/??? it is, but I'm normal now.

SDF Macross Tries Too Hard
Apr. 3rd, 2025 05:15 pmNow, keep in mind that I am aware I have a bias. He has long hair and looks nice, and other characters I like show I will forgive a cartoon character for almost anything when they look like that. In fact, maybe there's things he's done early on that I can't even remember because I liked looking at him more than I did retaining what is actually occurring on screen.
First of all, I know fiction is fiction and anyone can tell pretty much any story they want to. But the very premise of the show sometimes made me 🤔 A show about how they have to and should fight this war, because of the threat of invasion... from Japanese writers? I might just be a hater; I'm suspicious of any pro-war propaganda from a country only 40 years off from being part of the Axis. Although I understand the urge to draw cool machines and make up wars to explain all the cool machines you've drawn. But then they have this pacifist character, who is Chinese for some reason? Why'd they make the guy who doesn't want war Chinese? And they made him look a fool pretty often too. And I get it, when it comes to reasons for war theirs is a good reason, but... hmmmmmm.
And then, as if being a cringe pacifist wasn't enough, they give you even more reasons to dislike him eventually. As if they don't trust you to dislike him, so they have to add on more reasons. He's an alcoholic, abusive, incestuous, and just generally pathetic. He DOES suck. So it's not like I like him or think he's actually good, but I suppose I question the existence of his character itself? Maybe I'm focusing too much on him, maybe they just needed to break the cutie (Minmay) a little and used a character they already had rather than jump through hoops to create and fit in more.
"You do not, under any circumstances, have to hand it to the abusive incestophile," I know, and I swear that's not what I'm doing. But when I see Kaifun hate it always gets me thinking... they tried way too hard to convince viewers to hate that pacifist... it just makes me stroke my beard in thought is all.
On Inuyasha
Jan. 13th, 2025 12:00 pmLook. I don't want to sound elitist. I really don't. But in the past few days i have seen numerous people say they thought Inuyasha was shoujo or that they're surprised to learn it isn't, as if the universe knows it irks me and keeps making it pop up to poison damage me.
I just feel like its pretty obvious Inuyasha is a shonen and not shojo. I'm sorry. Mistaking it for shoujo is such a rookie mistake. We should all know shonen manga is perfectly capable of being of the romance subgenre. It has many big hits that are romance, even! Like Kimagure Orange Road or some shit, I don't know off the top of my head, look I'm not a shonenhead okay.
And I don't mean to sound like "all shoujo looks the same," but like, c'mon man. look at it. Now look at Inuyasha for me. You think that's shoujo? Their eyes aren't sparkly at all, for one thing. And, if it were shoujo, the fights would be used to make Inuyasha look super cool and awesome and manly since he's the love interest, but I've gotten that feeling from him like twice, LMAO. You know who gets that treatment? Sesshomaru. But I'm not sure how much is actually in the manga and how much is the anime staff trying too hard to appeal to the female fanbase, because I've never read all of Inuyasha.
(Fun fact: The day after I wrote this I saw a Tumblr post talking about how isekai used to be for girls and now it's all male power fantasy video game knowledge jerkoff fests, and they included a picture of Inuyasha as an example of good classic joseimuke isekai, and I wanted to reach through the screen and shake them.)

Translating pages from Yukiko issue 1
Dec. 28th, 2024 02:34 amIf you happen across this and know Spanish, feel free to correct any mistakes I've made.. If you don't, there's still a good chance you know English - if anything strikes you as unnatural or you know there's a more common way to phrase something, let me know.
The original pages are right here. Yay for graphic design! I'm sure we all love magazine layouts here.

Talking About Stuff I've Seen Recently
Oct. 28th, 2024 07:08 amTo whom it may concern: I have decided I have succeeded in acclimating myself to Dreamwidth, and therefore no longer have a need to force myself to do weekly journals. Thus, I will no longer write such posts every weekend, only when something actually interesting happens. Some things I wanted to include in those posts have been put in a separate post category. Because I love making tables and lists, I have made a table with a suggestion for a type of post to make every day of the week. I don’t have to post every day or anything, but if I’m up for writing I already have ideas down. And “today” (since it’s 3 AM it’s Monday, but lets pretend it’s Sunday) is Review/Reaction Sunday. So let’s talk about things I’ve checked out recently! ^__^
