Procrastinating homework by enacting a post idea I had weeks ago: image dumps. Like link dumps... but images. Also videos! Although videos may be included in link dumps too sometimes. Depends on the vibe, you know how it is. Click on the picture for its source.



This is the first thing I put on my "list of pictures to share on DW" folder a month and a half ago. I could easily find a screenshot of this CG in better quality, but nahh. At the time I probably had something disproportionately wild to say about this picture in contrast to how tame/simple/chaste/??? it is, but I'm normal now.

I thought about it, and concluded maybe they went on your friends' walls. Kidzworld had comment sections on profiles but we couldn't send images in them, but if I could that's probably how I would've used them? These days I'm not active on any sites that have walls or profile comments anymore... Do I really wanna hop back on SpaceHey just to use these internet greeting cards...

The ones that have no use as a normal greetings card and are just funny I assume are things you would put in your profile/bio/signature/etc. I don't really know though. I'm too young! If anyone knows or remembers the various ways people would use them, please tell me.

2. Does anyone know any microblogging platform that has built-in RSS feeds and customizable profiles beyond "you can choose an icon and header" besides Status.cafe? Or is that the only one? I don't dislike it or anything, I just want to know if I have options.

I'm sleepy and have other things to do today, so I'm posting this now when I've only read over my translations once and could honestly have picked better fonts. I had meant to post both parts, but the translation for the test results of Part 2 is reeeeeally rough right now. Later I'll finish everything and repost them on rubiroma. Typesetting, man...


I chose to translate these to sound just as heteronormative as the original text is. For the first one, it's strange that it assumes you'll only pick guys, when the female characters had fans too...

Thank you for your attention! For the sake of my mutuals who watch me reshare illustrations of lanky, godlike men in confusion, for the sake of those who see my art and wonder who these strange people are, and for the sake of those curious about video game or joseimuke history, I have written this. I will mainly focus on the first game Angelique (1994) and its rereleases, but I'll be sure to mention characters and such from the other games too.

The Basics

Angelique is a series of video games along with a media franchise encompassing anime, manga, novels, drama and music CDs, and much more. It's a series of simulation games - with one JRPG aberration and two digital board games - that forms part of the otome umbrella. In fact, it's the first otome game in history! (What is an otome game?) It's made by Ruby Party, who had to fight to prove making a game aimed just at women would work out. It's also part of their Neoromance series, a franchise of dating simulation games for girls. (Others include Harukanaru Toki no Naka de/Beyond the Stream of Time, Kiniro no Corda/La Corda d'Oro, and Neo Angelique. Maybe you've heard of them!)

The first game released in 1994 and centers around an exam to choose a new Queen for the universe. As the current one loses her power, her aide Dia leads the exam to choose a new one. Two girls from Smolney Girls' Academy on the Main Planet, Angelique and Rosalia, are chosen and whisked away to compete for the throne. To win they must properly harness the powers of the all-male guardians to nurture their own continents. Whoever fully cultivates their continent first gets to be Queen. Obviously it will go better for you if you're in the guardians' good favor, but be careful -- the Queen must be entirely devoted to her work in supporting the Universe. Or, put into other words, girls with boyfriends can't be queen.

One of the most common questions I'm asked is some variant of "what's wrong with you?" However, the second most common thing I'm asked is "how did you learn Japanese?" or something related to my language knowledge. So I decided I might as well write about it. I do have suggested resources, but before I give those out I have things to say to all the beginner or considering-beginning learners. Parts of this entry might be useful advice to learners of any language, or just those targeting languages that greatly differ from their native language.

Before I give any tips directly related to language learning, I want to give my two cents on a common belief: A baby learns language better than adults. After a certain age, learning a new language becomes really hard. Try as you might, you'll never be the linguistic machine that a baby is. Blah blah blah. I've seen the research; I'm sure there's stuff going on in a baby's brain related to language that's very interesting and unique. But I simply don't believe that babies learn languages better than older people.

I didn't think about what to say on the days I share art... Well, I can say that I may make little changes to any art uploaded for Three Weeks for Dreamwidth before I upload them to other sites, and when I make said changes I might change the image here as well. You know, in case that's a concern to you. For example, I might change the grays here to be screentone and solid black as appropriate, but to do that I'd have to switch to Clip Studio Paint (which is on my computer) when I drew this all on Procreate (tablet).

The characters here are Elphelt Valentine (bob) and Testament (long hair) from Guilty Gear. I probably could've done this joke with someone Testament actually knows for real, but 1. i liek asphalt and 2. I think they should be friends.

I wasn't able to finish the thing I was supposed to share in time, so I'm going to replace it with an opinion piece written while very tired instead. (Might have to replace my plans for Day 4 too... we'll see.)

You may have seen graphs floating around about the reddest (Republicancore) and bluest (Democratcore) baby names. And maybe you've seen this picture before:


Well. I thought the picture was funny the very first time I saw it, and that's it. Hasn't been funny since. It just makes me feel :/ now. The reason is that I don't believe in making fun of names, except for under very narrow circumstances like naming your child a keysmash or consistently using the letter X because you're obsessed with dystopian scifi while being the one creating said future. It's overplayed and possibly counterproductive, and the Republican-coded names are interesting if you try to look into why they've sprung into popularity. Just like another culture whose names are oft-derided.
