if u told me 10 years ago that sebastian would have his ex male lover introduced in the manga, not only as an important character but confirming him as a bisexual I wouldve laughed in your face

art of sebastian looking lost in the sauce from chapter 215

mik (my friend, who is not op) sent this to me hours ago and i was in such disbelief i had to go find the raws and see if there's any way people are misunderstanding, but no, it's real. specifically, what the eng tl translated as "dalliance" was originally "戯れ," and considering the context... i could simply find no heterosexual explanation.

although i will say "lover" implies "bf" when it seems to be something less... devoted than that, to me. and "important" may be a stretch because to me that implies being a new main character, not a side one.

miksters also added that if he wasn't bi he would've denied ever sleeping with a man, rather than being like uhhhhh well hmmmm i dont really remember this guy

people online love to lie and say characters are [X identity here] to cope, so i, ever the pessimist, overcorrect by not believing anything until it's confirmed directly or the chara's experience just cant align with straightness/cisness/whiteness(or asianness, depending on the work)/etc at all. and i mean AT ALL.

this, in retrospect, makes sebastian's rejection of grell perhaps reflect even worse on him. i have to reread/rewatch that arc maybe, but i swear seb wasn't just Not Into Her, but thought she was weird for being gay (i use this broadly). i could be misremembering. he could also simply not be into femmes i guess, which is a whole nother can of worms but better than being transphobic(?)

grell hasn't been relevant in years. the way she was handled at the start was pretty bad, but who's to say how toboso feels now?

whatever. that's a different topic.

This post was originally access-locked, but on July 30th 2025 I released it to the general public. You're welcome!

It was a long time coming.

I wanted a picture to go with this post because I'm an image-loving tumblrinx at heart, so I went straight to my very first tumblr blog to find one. Not only did I find a picture, but I also found the exact dates I first started and finished the anime, along with my (very brief) reactions.

so I just watched ep. 1 of Princess Jellyfish on Netflix
hmm yess I think I will enjoy this anime a lot

I…I finished princess jellyfish…kuranosuke and tsukimi never even kissed or anything…I cant believe this…

Well I have great news for you, teenaged Chris: I just read the manga and they never kiss!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!

She's so pretty... I miss her bad.........

A few days ago, I finally finished the manga for Fushigi Yuugi. For some reason, I got to the second-to-last volume and dropped it about a year~ish ago? So I started over from where the anime ends and tried part 2 again.

I've decided to switch from using MAL to Anilist (I'll try to keep the two synced in the future, however), and after cleaning up my backlog I've decided to start reading manga with a focus instead of according to whims. Along with keeping up with some manga I've decided I want to read while they're ongoing (many others I've decided should wait until they're finished), I want to alternate between reading a shoujo or josei manga and then a yuri manga. The yuri manga could simultaneously be shoujo; you know what I mean.

All that is barely relevant to what I'm about to say, because Fushigi Yuugi: Byakko Senki is one of the ongoing manga I'm reading. Anyways, Suzuno's love interest Tatara is 12 years old. Why? I guess Watase's been getting into age gaps lately. It's weird and I don't like it, but I have to keep reading because I've read the stories of all the other priestesses. It's pointed out Tatara doesn't know what sex is or anything, so I suppose part of the appeal is that it's a pure love... *thinking of how friqui FY is and having a hard time buying that completely, even though I said it* ... I don't know, I just would be uncomfortable if a 12 year old declared his love and intent to marry me. Suzuno is 18, by the way. I hope some weird time stuff happens and he becomes her age or older soon. Even then I'm not sure if that will magically fix everything for me, but it'd certainly be an improvement!!

And then after I caught up with Byakko Senki, I read the prequel Byakko Ibun. Because of all the stuff with Tatara, I'm extremely suspicious of how she wants Nirusha and Neiran to be viewed. Strictly speaking, there's nothing that happens between them that can't be explained away as purely platonic devotion. I'm not saying men can't befriend children. It's good to be able to talk to your elders, even.......... but Watase's track record isn't looking too good now is it? And it kinda sucks because their story is the kind of story I like, both as a platonic/familial thing and a romantic thing, but I fear she may have intended the latter interpretation and the age gap is........... .............................. .......................................... She lowkey reinvented SessRin 😭😭😭😭😭 Man.

In conclusion, this is what it's like trying to enjoy cartoon Japanese media without being a loli/shotacon: [pic of Jesus on the cross or some shit]

Look. I don't want to sound elitist. I really don't. But in the past few days i have seen numerous people say they thought Inuyasha was shoujo or that they're surprised to learn it isn't, as if the universe knows it irks me and keeps making it pop up to poison damage me.

I just feel like its pretty obvious Inuyasha is a shonen and not shojo. I'm sorry. Mistaking it for shoujo is such a rookie mistake. We should all know shonen manga is perfectly capable of being of the romance subgenre. It has many big hits that are romance, even! Like Kimagure Orange Road or some shit, I don't know off the top of my head, look I'm not a shonenhead okay.

And I don't mean to sound like "all shoujo looks the same," but like, c'mon man. look at it. Now look at Inuyasha for me. You think that's shoujo? Their eyes aren't sparkly at all, for one thing. And, if it were shoujo, the fights would be used to make Inuyasha look super cool and awesome and manly since he's the love interest, but I've gotten that feeling from him like twice, LMAO. You know who gets that treatment? Sesshomaru. But I'm not sure how much is actually in the manga and how much is the anime staff trying too hard to appeal to the female fanbase, because I've never read all of Inuyasha.

(Fun fact: The day after I wrote this I saw a Tumblr post talking about how isekai used to be for girls and now it's all male power fantasy video game knowledge jerkoff fests, and they included a picture of Inuyasha as an example of good classic joseimuke isekai, and I wanted to reach through the screen and shake them.)

Like how I never want to decide between Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask, I don't want to decide between Metal Gear Solid and Metal Gear Solid 2. When I beat 3 I'll probably feel the same. So I'm using MGS1 as a representation of all 3. Or all 2.2. Because I haven't beat Snake Eater. That's a 2025 goal for sure.

You know what's funny about my hours suddenly dipping in March... I think that's when I started Angelique. :P

That's all for now. See you around.

Hello, person reading this. I hope you’re doing well. :3

To whom it may concern: I have decided I have succeeded in acclimating myself to Dreamwidth, and therefore no longer have a need to force myself to do weekly journals. Thus, I will no longer write such posts every weekend, only when something actually interesting happens. Some things I wanted to include in those posts have been put in a separate post category. Because I love making tables and lists, I have made a table with a suggestion for a type of post to make every day of the week. I don’t have to post every day or anything, but if I’m up for writing I already have ideas down. And “today” (since it’s 3 AM it’s Monday, but lets pretend it’s Sunday) is Review/Reaction Sunday. So let’s talk about things I’ve checked out recently! ^__^
