I was nearing 100 saved links, so here we are.
Not that I'm going to post them all in one go. Hell no. I organized them into groups, and I'm going to post 2 or 3 groups max per linkdump.
As for my life, I've been a little busy lately. In a few days I'm going to opposite side of the country to visit a friend for a month. She has to really impress me, because this will determine if after graduation I'll move to Seattle and stay with her or stay in the comfycozy South and feel warmth on my skin 3/4 of the year. Until I leave, I've been working to put out an update on my site - an update I won't drop without completing work on a brand new second website, a fansite where I mostly translate stuff. :p And I have to clean and stuff... yeah, you know how it is. I also have a summer Japanese class, but I'm not stressing it.
The bizarre, true story of Metal Gear Solid’s English translation
Aeons, Eikons, and Espers: The Localization History Behind Final Fantasy’s Iconic Beasts (Part One)
"The S**t Hit The Fan" - Ex-Sony Producer Talks PlayStation & Final Fantasy VII's Localization Nightmare
Localization and Technology, Or: How Over a Decade of Progress Affects Your Localization / (It's about the Ace Attorney Investigations Collection.)
To release Animal Crossing in the West, Nintendo ‘had to change everything’
Localizing Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin
The careful cultivation and localization of Sakuna: Of Rice and Ruin / I haven't played this game. Don't even have it wishlisted. I don't know how I ended up with two articles on it saved, lol
The Authoritarian Regime Survival Guide
Statement on Visit to the USA, by Professor Philip Alston, United Nations Special Rapporteur on extreme poverty and human rights
Taking Orwell's Name In Vain
The Right-Wing Story About Human Nature Is False
The Patriotism Trap / I really liked this essay. For a long time I used to wonder how I'd respond to the question "Do you love this country?" if I were running for president, ever since I saw a Republican say "Dems can never just say 'yes'." Because... I don't? I don't love "this country," I care for the people who live in it. Why would I give a shit about some founding documents, or lines on maps, or some vague grouping of ideals that we don't even live up to? Why do I have to pretend I do? I want people to survive and thrive - and not just "my" people, all people. That's all. If allegiance to those things is standing in the way, screw them.
Radical Change Isn't Free (What happens when the U.S. declares war on your parents? The Black Panther Cubs Know.)
The neurological impact of being Black in the U.S. / (Faster neurological aging and yet, black still does not crack.)
How White-Collar Criminals Plundered a Brooklyn Neighborhood
Freedman’s Bank / An article from Britannica, but something to think about when pondering generational wealth and reparations.
Jay-Z’s bitcoin school met with skepticism in his former housing project: ‘I don’t have money to be losing’ / you ever listen to the story of o.j. and think "this song would go soooo crazy if I was aspiring to be bourgeoisie" ? sadly i must shake my head after turning it up so that you know i disagree
And as for the MV up top............ *sheds tear* new jack swing fans: we're so back (just one little problem: the song is too damn short!!)
