Getting Back Into Photography

As part of my dephoning, I got a charger for my camera and am carrying it around now. I haven't used it since 2019, and I really need to take some time to relearn how to fully use it... It's just a Canon PowerShot ELPH 180, nothing fancy. It was the cheapest camera I could find, bought the day before the first day of photography class in high school :) Which I failed, because it was my first class of the day and I slept through it nearly all the time :) I was surprised the teacher just let me sleep; they never do that.
But ANYWAYS...
I took these today.

I edited them as soon as I got home (and opened Dreamwidth as soon as I finished xD). The second one feels tryhard to me because I wanted it to be spooky, but I took it in the middle of the day, so I had to do all that to distract from the sky being bright blue and beautiful. Maybe when I learn how to drive I'll come back at night. Also, I'm like 80% sure that must be the house that was on fire last month, the one I watched huge clouds of smoke billow from but couldn't find any reporting on later.
I don't know why I've held these hostage for so long, but I also took these on March 25th with my phone.

Affectionately dubbed The Hobo House (? Unsure if offensive) by yours truly. It's boarded up, but I'm judging by the shopping carts it has occupants anyways. I hope they don't mind me taking pictures of their home... The main reason I was reminded to buy a camera was because when I took these pictures I wished I had a proper camera. I have a working camera now, but the flowers are gone... What's the point of calling this season spring when there's no flowers? The week with flowers should be called spring, and after that it's just summer. Well, that's my opinion.
The Hobo House pictures were also edited. The raw photos look like this:

The pictures were beautiful on my phone, but when I opened them on my computer I was like... they don't look like how I remember them? So I tried to edit it so that they feel how I felt when I saw it in real life, but uhhhh. I think the yellow-y tone is too reminiscent of autumn... Do you mind how gray the original pics are, or do you actually like it more than the edit?

Date: 2025-04-10 04:51 pm (UTC)I prefer your edits of the "hobo house" pictures to the originals. It always feels like the colors of photos never really look anything like it looks in the eye, but the edit makes me feel like I'm really there. The details seem to pop more as well. I don't know anything about photo editing but I like it.

the guide mostly focuses on privacy as a reason why you'd dephone, but i think it's worth mentioning that it can be a part of reclaiming your attention span. if you split your phone up into 3-10 different devices, and one of the devices you can only scroll mindlessly through microblogs on if you get out of bed, that's good for your brain. i would assume. part of why im on DW is that it's not microblogging too (people can actually fully explain the things they want to say without annoyingly split-up threads and etc)
