elyusionIn January my musical focus was popular songs in Spanish, Japanese, and Mandarin (although other Chinese languages may have snuck in), and in February my musical focus was songs in those languages from genres I like specifically. I discovered so many songs that I didn't even know which to DM to my usual music buddy -- and sending all of them would only result in threats on my life. But then I remembered I have a blog. So now I get to put on not just her, but all of you. Welcome to my twisted playlist.
Probably unnecessary to say, but I feel like apologizing anyways: None of these songs are very niche or underground, and maybe some of you have known some of these songs or artists for a looooooong time. I'm aware that I'm not sharing anything particularly wild. I just wanted to cast a wide net and see what artists I should already know but don't, and later I can dig deeper. Especially for the Spanish and Mandarin/Chinese music scene. (I think I have "rare Japanese music" covered, but still I could listen to more popular songs too.)

⮩ Ai Ni is a cover of this, which I heard first years ago and is probably the original unless there's a secret older version. Two cakes!
⮩ Ji Ming Yue has an equally as good English version.
⮩ White Love by SPEED is a crazy combination of words, but they mean snow. It's a winter love song. And the group's name is just very #Y2K in a way.
⮩ Someone posted Momoiro Kataomoi's MV once, and I watched a little bit of it and thought "hmmmm. Cute, but not the best." That was clearly the thought process of a complete fool, because the song is great and I dunno what I was on the first time I heard it. I love the little wind-up into the chorus.
⮩ Ren'ai Revolution 21 is a mix of a Morning Musume song, which I still have not heard.
⮩ Hellokittybalahcurryhellokittyoishii is super catchy in a way that's really obvious, so I'm mad that it worked. Whether I actually like it or not doesn't matter when I can't stop saying Hellokittybalahcurryhellokittyoishii. babyMINT makes some really interesting-sounding songs, so if you have time to waste you should listen to 2023 : BBMeme ODYSSEY or another one of their popular songs.

- Do you know the song Hands by m-flo? It’s my favorite of theirs and honestly one of my favorite songs in general 🩵
- @ Lamento Boliviano: “Mi corazón idiota” real 😔 The Be My Baby beat is international, huh.
- I was wondering what other song the chorus of Super Star by S.H.E. kinda reminded me of, and then it dawned on me: It was this German song Herz an Herz by Blümchen (which is a banger by the way; it’s technically a cover of a song from the 80s which isn’t as bangin).
- MOMOIRO KATAOMOI AND WHITE LOVE. I have been activated. Good thing you wound up recognizing the former as the classic it is. I know that phenomenon though, listening to something for the first time and being like “meh” and next time it’s like “what have I been on, this is good!” Happens to me all the time, I need to get used to things first before I can really like them it seems.
Oh SPEED… they really weren’t the greatest of singers but I have such nostalgia for music like this… サヨナラは雨の日 is another one of theirs I like. Rain and snow songs always work on me apparently haha
- I relate to the alt identity crisis (ToT) After my “too cool for normal stuff” phase, I had a phase in which I overwhelmingly listened to pop to reclaim that buried part of myself, I suppose, but then I was like “wait, I’ve neglected my rock and metal all this time, haven’t I?”
That’s all I’ve got to say so far, I’ll keep listening to the rest ❤️🔥

- Herz and Herz is the exact kind of music I need right now. I think I will listen to more Blümchen, thank you.
- Whenever I fall for a song that made me go "meh" the first time I stress about how many other possible-favorite songs have I missed out on because the first hear didn't pull me in 😣 If Momoiro Kataomoi wasn't on that Japense Y2K playlist I found I never would've heard it again!!
- Sayonara ha Ame no Hi is probably meant to be a sad song, but it feels a little sexy... Saved!
- Idk why I'm scared of being called a fake [???????] because I purposefully don't seriously identify as goth or emo or anything so I don't have to feel restricted by those labels. But what if... What if... But hey, pop music is popular for a reason! It can be good!!!
