I've commented in
vsynthrecs and
vampiremedia, and I'm seriously considering participating in
moodthemeinayear next year, but not the yearly challenge -- probably a monthly one or the bingo -- but uhh. Hey, these are mostly the same comms I participated in last time! I hope next time will be different, LMAO.
This is probably related, so I'm going to talk/ask about my plans for the visual kei community here. If that seems like the kind of thing you'd be interested in, read more and vote in my poll here if you haven't already. I really do hate sounding like an attention-seeker, but, well... I kinda need a little attention right now xD I don't want this community to be dead on arrival, you know?
If you know vkei, you know sometimes it can get a little *cracks whip* *spurt of blood from offscreen source* freaky. And I don't want to get anyone in trouble or make anyone uncomfortable. I know Dreamwidth is mostly adults, and while the way this site works might filter most modern-day minors, a few might stick around. Visual kei seems to be pretty popular with teenagers right now. (I think. I really don't use TikTok.)
It turns out that people under 18 will be able to see age-restricted community posts unless I mark the whole community as 18+.
Really, there's veeeeeery few videos I can think of that would be wildly inappropriate for someone 13 or over to see if they choose to (I will be asking people to warn for things), but maybe I'm awful liberal. I think if it's no big deal for preteens and teens to see blood, they can see a little dryhumping.
BUT.
If an adult posts gore and dryhumping, would they really want a minor commenting on it? What if they say something immature and just unwanted by the adult? How do I handle this? What rules do I add? Or what should I tell someone who comes to me asking about it?
My friend told me to not allow minors to join, but that just seems unfair to me. Minors deserve song recs too :( I was a teenager once listening to these weird songs and it did nothing to me that's dangerous to society or myself. Not counting the car accidents I've caused by wearing leather pants casually. (/kidding!!!!!!!)
Just gonna get this out the way and say I don't care a lot about what the people behind the songs I'm listening to have done. Well, I do care, but there's levels to it and all sorts of other factors I'm not going to get into here. Anyways. I don't think anyone in the vkei scene is (publicly known to be) Marilyn Manson 2.0 or anything, but still, some bandomen/bandofemmes (word I made up just now)/etc. have said or done bad/weird things. Some might even make people uncomfortable to see, I don't know.
... I don't really know what I want to ask; I just feel like it could cause problems. I don't want to make a rule saying "no posting weirdos!" or whatever because it would discourage people to post if they have to research every single random band before sharing them. And some people straight-up don't care that the fire song they're about to post is by someone who said "Trump has made points 🤔" or "personally as a crossdresser I also think bathrooms should be segregated by sex" (yes I am vaguing certain people) -- and I don't care either, in the sense that a banger is a banger but I will add the person who said the ridiculous thing to a list of people I don't respect in my head.
No one brings this up in the other "post songs now" communities I've seen, possibly because most people here are too old to be trying to start shit, but I know the nature of vkei makes fans more likely to be aggressive/rude/combative. So. You could say I'm a bit worried.
The concept of making people post a list of sins committed by the bandomen they're sharing if they're aware of them is really, really funny.
Real talk: Why. I've always wondered why they're not remade yearly. You can't change the comment order to newest-first, so it's a lot of clicks to get to the newest person. Not really a lot, but I think reading about the bigger socmeds has trained me into thinking of the average user as increeeeeeeeeeeedibly lazy with a 2-second attention span. (Me too, me too.)
I actually learned that people track the comments to intro posts. Is this common knowledge? Maybe I should add that to the intro post. That you should track it to get notifs when someone new says hi.
The things I've seen...
I said I wanted the community to have the posts sorted by subgenre and sound, right? What if someone tags their own post with something and it's... wrong? Or, let's just say I and/or the other mod(s) disagree with their diagnosis. What if I/we change the tag and they get mad? 😭 People get heated about this, but I don't want to just not tag things because that defeats the purpose of the comm for me.
I suppose if I really want this, I have to ready myself for conflict with strangers. Maybe I should ask them to justify themselves before I just change their tags without saying anything? They might teach me something new and all.
I do plan on saying you don't have to tag things if you're unsure, by the way. I don't want to discourage anyone from posting because they're not confident! I'll add fitting tags when I get to said untagged posts. But if someone confidently tags something incorrectly, I'm not sure what would be the best course of action. Maybe I should PM them. Suggestions?
What the heck do I name the place?
I really wanted something with "visual shock" in it since it's an early description of the scene and where the term "visual kei" comes from, but both @/visualshock and @/visual-shock are taken by freaking TVXQ blogs of all things. Just because they looked a little vkei at their start doesn't mean...... *incoherent grumbling*

3. Why one post for introductions?

I don't know, but I want it to clearly show what the community is for.

I don't know, but I prefer aesthetic names even if they obscure what the comm is for.

I have (a) name idea(s)!: (If you can't leave it empty, just type X or N/A or something.)

Date: 2025-12-13 11:44 am (UTC)i was having trouble wording the age thing, but i see it can all be solved by saying no being horny @ each other. or something like that.
as for the artists, i think i'll not say anything at all until someone says something, and then i will show them how to mute words using tampermonkey or whatever it was.
i really don't wanna be a cop, but i want organization >_< i want to think people won't tag sounds (punk, metal, edm, etc) wrong when they can leave it blank if they don't know, but working in customer service makes you want to prepare for the most clueless person on earth ^^;; i'll have to see how tag settings work in communities i guess; it'd be funny if i could make it so anyone can add any tags to anyone's entries but they can't delete anything. i probably need to have more faith in my hypothetical community members LOL
thank you again <333 youre the best oomf a blogger could ask for
