elyusion: (sad)
I've decided to switch from using MAL to Anilist (I'll try to keep the two synced in the future, however), and after cleaning up my backlog I've decided to start reading manga with a focus instead of according to whims. Along with keeping up with some manga I've decided I want to read while they're ongoing (many others I've decided should wait until they're finished), I want to alternate between reading a shoujo or josei manga and then a yuri manga. The yuri manga could simultaneously be shoujo; you know what I mean.

All that is barely relevant to what I'm about to say, because Fushigi Yuugi: Byakko Senki is one of the ongoing manga I'm reading. Anyways, Suzuno's love interest Tatara is 12 years old. Why? I guess Watase's been getting into age gaps lately. It's weird and I don't like it, but I have to keep reading because I've read the stories of all the other priestesses. It's pointed out Tatara doesn't know what sex is or anything, so I suppose part of the appeal is that it's a pure love... *thinking of how friqui FY is and having a hard time buying that completely, even though I said it* ... I don't know, I just would be uncomfortable if a 12 year old declared his love and intent to marry me. Suzuno is 18, by the way. I hope some weird time stuff happens and he becomes her age or older soon. Even then I'm not sure if that will magically fix everything for me, but it'd certainly be an improvement!!

And then after I caught up with Byakko Senki, I read the prequel Byakko Ibun. Because of all the stuff with Tatara, I'm extremely suspicious of how she wants Nirusha and Neiran to be viewed. Strictly speaking, there's nothing that happens between them that can't be explained away as purely platonic devotion. I'm not saying men can't befriend children. It's good to be able to talk to your elders, even.......... but Watase's track record isn't looking too good now is it? And it kinda sucks because their story is the kind of story I like, both as a platonic/familial thing and a romantic thing, but I fear she may have intended the latter interpretation and the age gap is........... .............................. .......................................... She lowkey reinvented SessRin 😭😭😭😭😭 Man.

In conclusion, this is what it's like trying to enjoy cartoon Japanese media without being a loli/shotacon: [pic of Jesus on the cross or some shit]

I don't watch visual kei MVs or concert videos a lot. I know that sounds crazy when it's called visual kei, but I usually listen to the music and look at pictures of the bands I'm listening to (and bands I don't listen to, naturally) separately. There's no real reason besides I suppose I fell out of the habit of watching MVs after I stopped watching TV. When I do remember that vkei videos are a real thing that I can watch, I have fun. Check these out:

The singer is dressed like if Testament wore pants. The camerawork is kind of funny. And I like the song! 5/5

When I was going through my Watch Later I actually had the video of Sheen saying "one she's a female..." (you know the one) play right before this, and I think it makes a great intro for the song. You should put on that video and then put this song in the queue right after it. Banger.

It's really fun to imagine them having to record these videos really fast before the police/staff stops them. Like, the guy between the shipping containers? No way were they given permission to film there. I don't believe it. Don't tell me they did; I want to dream. Imagine a meet cute where I person just walking down the street stumbles into one person in a group of freaks recording a MV for their epic gothlike band on a camcorder.

More importantly, the blink-and-you'll-miss-it part at 0:37 makes me Have Thoughts. I was called sick for this even though I didn't even say what the thoughts were. Vivimos en una sociedad.
